Scope

Farrell Construction was engaged as the Main Contractor to deliver a new 220m² classroom block at Hororata Primary School. This public sector construction project comprised two teaching spaces along with toilets, kitchen, meeting room and breakout areas.

Process

Building within a live environment construction setting at a primary school required careful coordination to keep staff and students safe while minimising disruption to daily learning. Farrell worked closely with the school principal as the Ministry of Education's construction delivery partner to plan activities, manage procurement lead times, and ensure clear communication. Carpentry trades, from foundations and framing to commercial fit-out, were carried out by Farrell's in-house team, allowing us to maintain programme certainty and strict quality control.

Result

Despite a tight timeframe, the project was completed in just 10 months and handed over in time for the start of the school term. The new block provides the school with modern, flexible teaching spaces that support high-quality learning outcomes for the Hororata community and accommodate future growth.
