Scope

Farrell Construction was engaged as the Main Contractor to complete the seismic strengthening and full refurbishment of VFL’s prominent corner site on St Asaph and Montreal Streets, Christchurch. The 18-month programme transformed an existing structure into a safe, modern commerccial facility integrating complex structural upgrades with a full interior and exterior refurbishment.

Process

The project required strategic part-demolition of non-compliant structural walls and attached office areas, followed by upgraded foundations and floor slab remediation. Existing structural walls and the roof diaphragm were strengthened, asbestos was safely removed, and new roof cladding, façade glazing, and guttering systems were installed. As the construction delivery partner, Farrell managed the extensive coordination with consultants to ensure structural performance and compliance, while maintaining programme certainty on a complex, high visibility, live site.

Result

Farrell delivered the full scope from structural strengthening to internal refurbishment, including windows, joinery and a complete repaint, with all carpentry trades undertaken by our own staff. The result is a fully modernised premise that meets current seismic standards and provides VFL with a high-quality commercial space fit for the future.
