Scope

Farrell Construction was appointed as the Main Contractor for the Yesaway office and warehouse, a part of the wider Mustang Park development at Christchurch International Airport. This commercial construction project delivered a specialised facility featuring a front-of-house reception, staff amenities, mezzanine storage, and a dedicated vehicle grooming area, all built on a robust raft foundation with a structural steel frame and cladding system.

Process

Constructing on airport land required strict compliance with CIAL’s security procedures and permitting. With the East-West runway just 300 metres from the site, managing the risk of Foreign Object Debris (FOD) was a critical operational priority. We implemented strict controls over crane lifts, deliveries, and site activities to meet aviation safety standards. Beyond the logistical constraints, the project team successfully managed further challenges including contaminated ground conditions and weather impacts to maintain a demanding 10-month programme. As the construction delivery partner, Farrell’s in-house carpentry team self-performed the majority of trades including cladding and the internal fit-out—ensuring quality and programme certainty.

Result

Delivered in just 10 months, the project was completed on time and within budget. The new Yesaway facility now provides modern, high-efficiecy base of operations withing the airport precinct to support the client’s ongoing operations.
