Scope

Farrell Construction was appointed as main contractor for the delivery eight new classrooms across two buildings for Darfield High School. This commercial construction project also required the strategic demolition and relocation of existing classrooms to provide temporary facilities during construction.

Process

Working in a live environment construction setting demanded careful planning and communication. Farrell’s proactive risk management protocols ensured disruption to students and staff was minimised, with staged demolition carried out over the Christmas period to meet key deadlines. The presence of a special needs faculty on campus required additional security and traffic management measures, implemented in consultation with the school principal. Farrell’s in-house carpentry team delivered the full range of trades, from foundations and framing through to cladding and interior commercial fit-out, ensuring programme certainty and control.

Result

Despite a tight programme and complex staging, the project was delivered within the agreed timeframe. The result is a high-quality public sector construction project featuring modern, functional teaching spaces seamlessly integrated with existing infrastructure. The new buildings support the school’s commitment to providing quality education for its students and Farrell's capability as a Main Contractor in Canterbury delivering functional education facilities.
