Scope

Farrell Construction was engaged to deliver a combined new build and refurbishment project at Lake Tekapo Primary School. As the Main Contractor, the programme included relocating buildings from Christchurch, installing new foundations and structural works, demolishing existing structures, and constructing a new sports garage and decking. The project also involved extensive civil works, landscaping, and reinstating playgrounds and services.

Process

Working within a live environment construction setting required close coordination with staff and students. Farrell collaborated directly with the principal as the Ministry of Education's construction delivery partner to plan activities, manage staged works, and minimise disruption. The programme was delivered in separable portions to ensure programme certainty and meet critical milestones. All carpentry elements, from foundations and installation of prefabricated classrooms  to cladding and commercial fit-out, were completed by Farrell’s own in-house team.

Result

Completed in 10 months, the project has provided Lake Tekapo Primary School with upgraded facilities, improved outdoor areas, and new, modernised teaching spaces. Beyond the technical delivery of commercial construction in Canterbury, Farrell’s presence strengthened ties with the local community, leaving both a high-performance, modernised school environment and positive relationships in place.
