Scope
Farrell Construction enjoys a long-standing partnership with Nazareth Community of Care. The community is located on eight hectares of established grounds in central Christchurch and includes retirement villas, rest home services and a fully functional hospital. For this project, we were engaged as the Main Contractor to deliver a new chapel and convent for the Sisters of the community. This commercial construction project required a high degree of craftmanship to create enduring facilities that serve as the spiritual heart of the community.
Process
The chapel’s design required a precision-led approach, with multiple roof configurations, high apexes and three distinct cladding products all adding to the construction challenge. As the construction delivery partner, Farrell worked in close collaboration with the IKON Architects to ensure buildability without compromising aesthetics. The convent was a more traditional build, but required a fast-tracked construction to meet programme targets. Through efficient planning and streamlined communication, the convent was handed over six weeks ahead of schedule. Farrell’s in-house carpentry team self-performed all trades, from the primary structural build to the high-end finishing.
Result
Both the chapel and convent were completed on time and within budget - a testament to Farrell's ability to successfully manage architecturally complex designs while maintaining programme certainity. The new chapel and convent will provide enduring facilities that honour the Sisters’ role in the community and enhance the residential life of the Nazareth campus.
