Scope

Farrell Construction was engaged as the Main Contractor for the seismic strengthening and full refurbishment of Our Lady of Victories Church. This commercial construction project focused on a Christchurch landmark of significant architectural and cultural value, requiring a sensitive balance between modern structural resilience and historic preservation.

Process

Works involved high-risk asbestos removal, critical strengthening the roof structure and building diaphragm, new roof cladding, external wall repairs, and a full internal refurbishment with repainting. The steep roof pitch added significant complexity to the programme, requiring precise sequencing to maintain weather-tightness while internal refurbishments progressed. As the construction delivery partner, Farrell’s carpentry team carried out all structural and finishing works, ensuring total programme certainty.

Result

Delivered in 10 months, the project met programme, budget and quality expectations. The strengthened and refurbished church preserves the building’s architectural character while ensuring it remains safe, functional and fit for the parish community well into the future.
