Deploying 90+ carpenters at peak.
Scope
The Metro Sports Facility is a landmark anchor project in the regeneration of central Christchurch—delivering a large-scale, multi-use aquatic and indoor recreation complex designed to serve the wider region. The facility includes Olympic-sized swimming pools, hydroslides, leisure water areas, indoor courts, and high-volume public amenities, all within a technically complex, services-intensive environment.
Our role as a key subcontractor extended over a four-year period, delivering comprehensive carpentry and interior fit-out works across the project. This included structural and finishing carpentry, wall systems, linings, bulkheads, joinery installation, and detailed finishing across both public and back-of-house areas.
Process
At peak, we deployed a workforce of 90+ carpenters, supported by a dedicated on-site leadership team comprising Project Managers and Site Managers. This structure enabled us to manage multiple work fronts simultaneously, maintain programme momentum, and respond to the evolving demands of a large-scale construction environment.
The project required close coordination with the main contractor and multiple trades within a highly programmed and constrained site. Our team operated within a live, high-pressure delivery environment, managing complex sequencing, late design developments, and interface risks—particularly across services-dense zones and specialist aquatic areas.
Result
A strong focus was placed on quality assurance, health and safety, and programme reliability. Through detailed planning, supervision, and consistent workforce management, we were able to maintain output at scale while meeting the high standards expected of a flagship public facility.
Our contribution to Metro Sports demonstrates our capability to deliver large-scale carpentry and fit-out packages, scale labour efficiently, and integrate seamlessly into complex, multi-stakeholder projects.
