Scope

The Parakiore Recreation and Sports Centre (Metro Sports Facility) is a landmark anchor project in the regeneration of central Christchurch, providing a large-scale, multi-use aquatic and indoor recreation complex designed to serve the wider region. The facility includes Olympic-sized swimming pools, hydroslides, leisure water areas, indoor courts, and high-volume public amenities, all contained within a technically complex, services-intensive environment.

Our role as a key carpentry subcontractor extended over a four-year period, delivering comprehensive framing, interior fit-out, and structural precision works across the entire project. This included structural and finishing carpentry, specialised wall  systems, high-performance linings, architectural bulkheads, commercial joinery installation, and detailed finishing across both public and back-of-house areas.

Process

At peak, we successfully deployed a massive workforce of 90+ carpenters, supported by a dedicated, embedded onsite leadership team comprising Project Managers and Site Managers. This robust management structure enabled us to drive multiple work fronts simultaneously, maintain strict programme certainty momentum, and respond dynamically to the evolving demands of a large-scale construction environment.

The project required close coordination with the main contractor (CPB Contractors) and multiple distinct trades within a highly programmed and constrained central-city site. Our team operated within a live, high-pressure delivery environment, managing complex sequencing, late design developments, and multi-trade interface risks—particularly across services-dense zones and specialist aquatic areas, while upholidng rigorous Tier-1 health and safety compliance.

Result

Throughout the multi-year build, a non-negotiable focus was placed on quality assurance, health and safety, and absolute programme reliability. Through detailed planning, supervision, and consistent workforce management, we maintained exceptional trade output at scale while meeting the high standards expected of a flagship public facility.

Our contribution to Metro Sports demonstrates our capability to deliver large-scale carpentry and fit-out packages, scale labour efficiently under pressure, and integrate seamlessly as a subcontracting partner on complex, multi-stakeholder commercial projects.
