Scope
Farrell Construction was appointed as the Main Contractor to deliver a $1 million, 330m2 classroom block at St Patrick’s School, Strowen. The new build commercial construction included two teaching spaces with bathrooms, toilets and storage, replacing an older block that was demolished as part of the project.
Process
With the site located alongside the playground, safety and communication were paramount. Operating within a live environment construction framework, Farrell worked closely with the school principal to manage interfaces with staff and students, scheduling activities to minimise disruption. Procurement lead times and a tight programme added to the challenges, but proactive risk management and careful planning kept the project on track. Farrell’s in-house carpentry team undertook all structural and finishing work, ensuring high-quality work package delivery.
Result
Completed within 10 months, the project has provided the school with modern, functional teaching facilities. This public sector construction delivery aligns with the school's focus on collaborative learning. The new block enhances both the capacity and learning environment of St Patrick’s, supporting the school’s special character well into the future, as well as proving Farrell's capability for programme certainty on school sites.
