Scope
Farrell Construction was appointed as the Main Contractor to deliver a redevelopment for TransDiesel in Christchurch. This comprehensive commercial construction project included a new warehouse extension, a new redesigned entrance and architectural façade, full external cladding, and a high-spec office fit-out, alongside structural upgrades to the existing facility.
Process
An Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) phase with KVA Design and TM Consultants enabled robust value engineering and detailed planning ahead of construction. Maintaining programme certainty required managing a complex live environment construction site ensuring TransDiesel’s heavy industrial operations remained functional throughout the 14-month build. Farrell implemented risk management protocols alongside open communication with the client and consultants. All carpentry trades, from foundations and tilt panel installation through to cladding and fit-out, were self-performed by Farrell’s in-house team.
Result
The multi-faceted design included 700m² of tilt panel and portal construction, a new customer-facing office and showroom, and structural strengthening of existing buildings. Despite the project’s complexity, Farrell delivered the build in 14 months, on time and on budget, providing TransDiesel with modernised facilities to support its continued growth.
