Scope

Formerly the University’s Commerce building, the project revitalised a seven-storey block into a purpose-built educational facility that included new project rooms, breakout areas and social spaces. Farrell Construction was engaged as a super-subcontractor to deliver structural upgrades, façade, and commercial fit-out works, while also providing construction project management support to Hawkins.

Process

Our scope included removing the existing precast façade and internal panels, foundation remediation, strengthening columns, and replacing floor panels with new timber and steel substrates to ensure watertightness. Interior works covered partitions, glazing and GIB supply, fix and stop. As a construction delivery partner, Farrell provided more than 50 staff at peak, including Project Managers, Site Managers, foremen and carpenters, embedded directly with Hawkins to ensure seamless coordination and programme certainty.

Result

Delivered over 24 months, the redevelopment transformed the building into a high-performance learning facility. Operating within a live environment construction framework, careful planning meant noisy works and crane operations were scheduled around the academic calendar, minimising disruption for 10,000 daily campus users.
